Description

This geodatabase contains a series of feature classes, each of which summarized shade values for an upstream line buffer defined by a given distance or travel time upstream. These variables were developed as input predictors for a spatial stream network (SSN) temperature prediction model. Initial shade values (topographic + vegetative shade) were generated for a series of points created at 50 meter intervals along the SSN edges network. Shade was estimated on EPA's DMAP platform using two custom R programs available at https://github.com/USEPA/dmapSMP and https://github.com/USEPA/dmap-RShade. Upstream line buffers were derived using network analysis following the protocol described in Fuller et al. 2023 (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/1752-1688.13158) for the following distances: 1km, 2km, 3km, 4km, 5km, and 10km and travel times: 1hr, 2hr, 3hr, 4hr, 5hr, 6hr,12hr, 24hr and 1000hr. A spatial join was used to summarize the average shade for each set-up upstream line segments associated with a given distance or time upstream from either observation or predicting points, yielding one feature class for each combination.
